Graduation Seal Information

Beginning with the Class of 2023, Ohio students must complete graduation requirements in three areas: course credits, competency, and diploma seals. This page serves as Beavercreek High School’s central resource for diploma seal information, including requirements, participation forms, and additional graduation resources. Students should contact their counselor with questions regarding graduation requirements or seal eligibility.

Course Requirements 

The courses required to graduate from Beavercreek High School have not changed. Students still need twenty-one (21) or more credits to graduate. The credits required to graduate are:

  • English: 4 Credits
  • Math: 4 Credits
  • Science: 3 Credits
  • Social Studies: 3 credits
  • Health: ½ Credit
  • PE: ½ Credit
  • Fine Arts: 1 Credit
  • Personal Finance: ½ credit (class of 2024+)
  • Electives: 5 Credits (4 ½ credits for class of 2024+)

Testing Requirements

The testing requirements for students in grades 9-11 have changed. According to the new testing requirements, students must complete the Algebra I and English II Ohio State Tests and earn at least a score of 684 or higher on each test.  Students will still complete the Ohio State Tests in the same areas that they have tested in the past and earning a qualifying score on these tests will help them to earn a Diploma Seal. All of the required tested areas include: Biology, US History, Geometry,Government and the aforementioned Algebra I and English II.

Diploma Seal Requirements

A new requirement to graduate for students in the Class of 2023 and beyond are Diploma Seals. There are twelve available seals which can be earned, but a student must earn at least two seals in order to graduate. One of the earned seals must be a state seal. Please review the attached table which displays all of the available seals and the qualifying criteria for each seal.

STATE DIPLOMA SEALS

 

Students must earn 2+ seals to graduate from Beavercreek High School 

 

Students who earn an honors diploma in any pathway (Academic, Arts, Career Tech, STEM, Social Studies/Civic Engagement) are eligible to receive the Honors Diploma Seal.

Students who demonstrate fluency in a language besides English may be eligible for a Seal of Biliteracy. Students must demonstrate English proficiency through state testing, ACT or OELPA and then also demonstrate proficiency in a world language through testing.

Satisfy the requirements of the Career Readiness Seal: Demonstrate proficiency in 15 identified professional skills, use the OMJ Seal paperwork to demonstrate each criteria met; work with a mentor to validate each skill in multiple environments (work, school, community, etc).  **See your counselor for this form and instructions**

Students who earn remediation free test scores are eligible for Ohio’s College-Ready Seal. Remediation free scores are as follows: ACT Scores: English 18+; Reading 22+; Math 22+. SAT Scores: Evidence Based Reading and Writing 480+; Math 530+

Students who earn a score of 2 or higher on AP Computer Science A or AP Computer Science Principles; or, students who earn a B or higher in an appropriate College Credit Plus technology course, or students who complete a high school technology course(s) worth one credit or more (Ex: Engineering courses, IT, Cybersecurity)

Show evidence of enlistment in a branch of the armed services; or, participate in a JROTC program for two or more years.

Earn a score of 3+ on Ohio State’s Graduation Tests in American History and American Government; or, earn a score of 2+ in AP US History and AP US Government; or, earn a B or higher in an appropriate College Credit Plus courses or HS credit courses. Or earn a combination of any of these options for American History and American Government.

Earn a score of 3+ on Ohio State’s Graduation Test in Biology; or, earn a score of 2 or higher on any of the following AP exams: Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1; or, earn a B or higher in a College Credit Plus science course worth 3 college credits or more, or a B or higher in the HS advanced science course.

Earn a 12-point industry-recognized credential; or, earn a group of credentials totaling 12+ points in a single career field, or obtain a state-issued license for a practice in a vocation that requires examination in one of the foundation options.

LOCAL DIPLOMA SEALS

60+ community service hours can be earned anytime during grades 9-12 at an approved organization. Proposal Form must be turned in & approved by counselor prior to counting hours. Proof of hours and final reflection worksheet due after minimum hours are met.

 

For the Community Service Seal, there are three forms students must print out, complete, and turn in (see below). 

  1. Before starting any community service, the proposal form must be completed and turned in to your counselor for approval. 
  2. The log of hours should be completed as volunteer hours are accumulated. 

*It is intended that students complete all 60 hours with the same organization if possible.

  1. The Final Reflection should be completed after all 60 hours are completed.

Participate in 3 school sponsored sports, clubs or student government activities. Advisor/Coach must sign off on each completed activity. Students must participate in 80% to be considered. *Completed paperwork must be turned in to your counselor**

 

For the Student Engagement Seal, students must participate in three units of a school-sponsored activity and document each unit using the below form. A "unit" consists of anything eligible for a PE waiver, student government, or any club/activity that is school-sponsored and has an advisor. Students must participate in at least 80% of the activities in order to be eligible. 

For each activity, students must print off the below form, fill it out and have their advisor sign off on it. 

Student Engagement Proof of Participation Form options:

Form Option 1- For students completing activities over multiple years. Print out and turn in as you go

Form Option 2- For students who have already finished all three activities, you may use this form. 

Complete 3 credits of fine or performing arts throughout high school (band, choir, art, acting) with a grade of C or better.  

-OR- Earn 1 credit of fine or performing arts and complete 2 outside opportunities in the fine/performing arts. Outside opportunities must be approved by your counselor and proof of participation is required. **Completed paperwork must be turned in to your counselor**

 

For the Fine and Performing Arts Seal, students have two options:  

  1. Students can complete three credits in fine or performing arts at BHS (band, choir, art, or acting) with a grade of C or higher.
  2. Students can also choose to complete the one required credit of fine arts (with a C or higher) AND participate in two outside opportunities in that area. Examples: Youth Orchestra, OMEA, art shows, community theater, etc. Proof of participation for the outside opportunities must be provided (ex: program with your name in it, signed letter from a director, etc). 

The below form has both options listed, students complete the option that applies to them.
